YOUTH BOWLS REPORT - AUGUST 08.

As there were no entries, apart from those who attend sessions at Bowls Taradale, for the local Hawke's Bay selection for the regional event to be held September 20/21 (at Bowls Taradale), it was decided to have a really good practice session in the discipline the students will be playing, in the next round.  All Hawke's Bay Clubs had been notified of the first round but unfortunately there were no other young bowlers waiting in the wings! We played under the same conditions that students will face in the forthcoming competitions.

Players taking part are as follows - (ranked in experience e.g. New season = yr. of play.)
Mandy Boyd (3), Tessa Hocking (2), Malia Begley (2), Sophie Mills (2), Leonie Single (1) - All from Napier Girls' High - and Charlotte Weir (1) from Taradale High School.

Alex Jones (2), Adam Saunders (2) - Both from Napier Boys High School.

Apart from Adam and Sophie (Bluff Hill), who work at the Taradale centre but began at Bluff Hill - and thanks to Blair McRae, all players have come from Bowls Taradale.

The players named above will now contest the Regional Finals at Bowls Taradale, alongside representatives from Gisborne - East Coast and Manawatu at either Bowls Taradale or the Heretaunga complex (if weather is bad), the weekend of September 20/21.It would be great if the other Centre from our region, Wairarapa, would be able to join us next year.

From there the successful students will represent our region at the National Secondary School Championships in December at Hamilton.

I know it is the wish of the Hawkes Bay Executive that we try to set up at least 3 areas /centres to encourage youth participation. It would be great to have centres based in the  Hastings and Waipukurau areas to follow a similar programme (as at Taradale) to complement the total Hawkes Bay area.

Youth Bowls is a great area in which to become involved -let's face it..... they are the future of OUR sport!!!!!
